Titanic and the Men of Steel

‘Titanic and the Men of Steel’ follows the story of the Titanic, from the conception of this famous ship, through its building stages up to the launch day. It conjures the image of two sides of this remarkable story. Firstly the play portraits the powerful businessmen whose dreams and ambitions were backed by ingenious designs, engineering greatness and strong women and secondly, we get to know the brave and skilled workers who made his dreams a reality. The men of the yard and the ‘shawlies’ from a hundred years ago give us a glimpse of the back streets of Belfast and the warmth and humour of local life. This story follows John, a young 15 year old boy, as he passes through the gates of Harland and Wolff shipyard into a dangerous and tough new territory, joining the masses of men building the greatest ships in the world.
